A golden heirloom variety developed by the Amish.
1. Original Name: Dixie Golden Giant.
2. History: The only thing that is known is that this variety has been grown by the Amish family since the 1930s. An heirloom variety.
3. Plant Specifications: Mid-season. A good choice for growing in a greenhouse and outdoors. Indeterminate, tall bush, growing 6 feet (180 cm) tall. Thick stem, regular leaf. Regular truss. 3-5 fruits per truss.
4. Training Instructions: It is recommended to train the bush to one or two main stems. Pruning and staking are a must.
5. Shape and Weight: Beefsteak or round fruits, sometimes with shallow ribs near the stem end. Weight: 10.6-17.6 oz. (300-500 g) and more.
6. Color: Yellow and orange. The flesh is of a more intense yellow color resembling a yolk.
7. Flavor Profile: Very sweet with an amazing refreshing flavor and a fruity aftertaste.
8. Culinary Use: Perfect for salads, juices, sauces and paste. It is a mere pleasure to cut these large fruits in half!
Dixie Golden Giant has proved to be a stable variety. A heavy cropper!
