Tomato 'Dwarf Shadow Boxing (long)'
- Availability: In Stock
PACKAGING: Sachet Zip lock 12 - 15 SEEDS
1. Original Name: Dwarf Shadow Boxing (long). The word 'long' is not a part of the original name – we added it to the name just to indicate the difference from the original version of Dwarf Shadow Boxing.
2. History: A popular variety developed by well-known tomato breeder Tom Wagner (USA). Not related to the Dwarf Tomato Project. It has become popular due to the fact that this recent variety has demonstrated several different fruit shapes and bush habits.
As Tom Wagner says on his forum, “The Shadow Boxing lines I have are showing great disparity of many traits. I am not sure how I am going to settle out all the strains.” So it is right to name these different variants as lines. This is a line with elongated icicle-shaped fruits. We also have two other lines with round fruits but with different bushes (both dwarf bushes with rugose leaves and bigger regular bushes with regular leaves).
3. Plant Specifications: Mid-season. A good choice for growing outdoors and in a greenhouse. Determinate dwarf bush, growing up to 3.3 feet (100 cm) tall. Large rugose regular leaf. Regular truss, 5-6 fruits per truss.
4. Training Instructions: No pruning is required. It is recommended just to tie the longest stems and to remove the bottom leaves as they grow so that the bush could get a good airflow and could not become too branchy.
5. Shape and Weight: Elongated icicle-shaped fruits with small pointed tips in the upper part. Weight: up to 4.2 oz. (120 g).
6. Color: Green with purple shoulders at the mature-green stage. The fruits mature to red, and the shoulders turn inky blue, especially on the side exposed to the sun. The upper part of the fruits is covered with orange flame-colored streaks.
7. Flavor Profile: Sweet and slightly tart, well-balanced, with a slightly spiced tomato flavor. The fruits are juicy with thick walls.
8. Culinary Use: Perfect for canning but the color becomes dull when you use hot water. A good choice for making delicious salads, sauces, paste and ketchup. If you remove the seeds using a spoon, you can use firm meaty walls of the fruits for freezing and sun-drying.
