1. Original Name: Italian Gold. Also known as Italian Gold Roma.
2. History: Introduced by Carol Knapp (Knapp’s Fresh Vegies), USA. This variety was popular until the 2000s.
3. Plant Specifications: Mid-season. Suitable for growing outdoors. Determinate, short bush of the tree-type (dwarf but not related to the Dwarf Tomato Project), growing up to 1.6-2.3 feet (50-70 cm) tall. Thick stem, very rugose regular leaf. There are 4-7 fruits per truss.
4. Training Instructions: No pruning is required. But it is necessary to tie the longest stems.
5. Shape and Weight: Elongated plum-shaped or small pepper-like (paste-type) fruits. Weight: 1.8-2.1 oz. (50-60 g).
6. Color: Bright yellow and orange, with yellow flesh.
7. Flavor Profile: Sweet without any tartness. The flesh is meaty, sugary and firm.
8. Culinary Use: Ideal for canning whole tomatoes or slicing for pizza, sun-drying and freezing. A nice slicer for salads.
